Petition Wants Ban on Inappropriate Clothing and Indecent Videos at Faisal Mosque in Islamabad

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued notices to multiple government departments over a petition demanding restrictions on entry in Faisal Mosque for individuals wearing inappropriate clothing and creating indecent videos within the mosque premises.

According to Express News, notices have been sent to the Faisal Mosque administration, the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad, the Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), and the Ministry of Religious Affairs. Additionally, the President of the International Islamic University, the Inspector General (IG) of Islamabad Police, and the State have also been asked to submit their responses.

Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir of the Islamabad High Court heard the petition filed by citizen Musharraf Zain, who appeared in court alongside his counsel.

During the proceedings, the court inquired to whom the directions should be addressed, to which the petitioner’s lawyer responded that the Faisal Mosque was in charge, and other relevant authorities had been made respondents.

The petition highlighted that numerous videos circulating on social media show individuals engaging in inappropriate acts — including dancing and recording videos with background music — inside the mosque premises, violating its sanctity.

The petitioner argued that such behavior, including entering the mosque in revealing or improper attire, desecrates a place of worship and undermines the dignity of one of Pakistan’s most prominent religious landmarks. He added that this conduct contradicts Article 20 of the Constitution, which guarantees religious freedom while maintaining respect for religious spaces.

It was further stated that formal written complaints had already been submitted to the mosque administration, the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad, and the CDA chairman, but no action was taken. Similar complaints were also sent to the Minister of Religious Affairs, the President of the International Islamic University, and the IG Islamabad.

The petition urges the court to impose a legal ban on entering Faisal Mosque in indecent clothing and on recording videos involving music or dance within its premises.
