The Punjab government has made it mandatory for motorcyclists to wear masks as part of new precautionary measures to combat worsening air pollution across the province.
Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb said air currents from Delhi, Chandigarh, Gurdaspur, Ludhiana, and Patiala are pushing polluted air toward Lahore, while Multan, Bahawalpur, and Bahawalnagar are also being affected by smog drifting from across the Indian border.
She added that construction sites have been instructed to cover materials properly, and transporters carrying goods must keep their loads covered. “Wearing masks while riding motorcycles is now compulsory. Citizens should also keep car windows closed and ensure that doors and windows in homes remain shut,” the minister said.
According to Aurangzeb, a slight improvement in air quality is expected between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., though mild haze may persist in the afternoon despite clearer skies.
The minister further stated that anti-smog guns and water sprinkling operations are being carried out in Lahore and other cities. She stressed that every citizen’s cooperation is essential to reduce smog and ensure cleaner air.
“Individual responsibility and collective effort are key to achieving long-term success against pollution,” she emphasized.

Despite their pollution crossing the border and worsen our air quality, theirs is likely worse. I say it due to the fact that New Delhi has worse AQI than Lahore.

Majority of motorcycle riders have made the traffic unbearable in Lahore. Strict traffic laws should be enforced whether it is car or bike or rickshaw on the road.
Plz put heavy fines on bikes & cars release more smoke. I used to travel daily from DHA 9 Town towards gulberg where offen bikes are releasing too much smoke that one can’t breathe normally.
Very soon Lahore will be the worst city for bikers just with efforts of Lahore traffic (terrific) police this city is almost a police state

As per Wunderground, all Indian cities like Amritsar, Fazilka, Gurdaspur, Chandigarh have much less air pollution as on 21-Oct-2025 compared to Lahore. Then how is pollution blowing into Lahore fro there?
Petrol motorcycles must be replaced with electric bikes as early as possible, otherwise smog issue will never be resolved.

As a first, Exhaust emissions should be strictly monitored. Major construction should be postponed, bhattas, crops etc should be monitored, other industrial smoke should be purified before letting it out in the atmosphere. A lot of small measures can be taken to improve our atmosphere. Every person should plant at least one tree every year.
This order must be followed by all vehicles in Ludington motorcycles and all sites including Govt. Projects must be covered and ensure sprinkling water on sites and roads twice a day.
