Railways Police Arrest Fake Brigadier Involved in Extortion and Fraud

Pakistan Railways Police have arrested a man posing as a serving Army brigadier involved in multiple fraud and blackmail schemes.

According to the Railways Police spokesperson, the suspect, identified as Bahadur Ali, had been impersonating a Pakistan Army brigadier to scam people and extort money from government officials.

In February, the accused called the office of the SP Workshops in Lahore, introducing himself as an active-duty brigadier. During the call, he requested to be connected with Sufi Shaukat Qadri, an employee at the Mughalpura railway workshops. After establishing contact, the suspect falsely accused Qadri of involvement in terrorism and demanded Rs. 100,000 in extortion money to clear his name.

The police said the fake brigadier also claimed that SIM cards linked to terrorist activities were found near a mosque’s ablution area to pressure the madrasa administration. Using these fabricated allegations, Bahadur Ali attempted to blackmail and extort money from multiple people.

Following the incident, the Railways Police registered a case under the Telegraph Act at the Mughalpura Workshops Police Station and launched a detailed investigation.

A special team—comprising Inspector Rashid Shah Zaman, SHO Liaquat Ali, and other officers—was formed on the orders of the SP to track down the suspect. Using modern technology, the team successfully arrested Bahadur Ali, who is now in custody.

Officials said further investigation is underway to determine whether the suspect is linked to other similar fraud cases.
