The government has launched action against housing societies that have been luring citizens with false claims of low-cost plot files and misleading advertisements.
According to reports, several housing societies are under inquiry for falsely advertising No Objection Certificates (NOCs) and making fake promises about providing electricity, gas, water, and other basic facilities.
Many are also accused of hiding additional costs under development charges and promoting unrealistic returns on incomplete projects.
Authorities have also taken note of the use of celebrities in these campaigns, which are now under review for potentially misleading consumers. Additionally, housing societies using fake images to show development progress will also face legal consequences.
The government has warned that such practices could result in fines of up to Rs. 75 million. Citizens who have been misled or overcharged are encouraged to submit complaints and supporting evidence to the commission, which has vowed to hold fraudulent developers accountable.
