The main runway at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport will be closed for two hours each day from November 5 to November 24 to facilitate the construction of a new taxiway, according to airport authorities.
Officials confirmed that work on Taxiway Q will be carried out on Runway 07R/25L, which will remain partially closed during the specified period. Despite the closure, the runway will still be available for emergency and VVIP landings to ensure uninterrupted critical operations.
A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has been issued to all airlines, informing them of the scheduled closure and advising necessary adjustments to flight operations. The project is part of a broader modernization plan aimed at improving Karachi Airport’s infrastructure and operational efficiency.
Sources revealed that construction activities are already progressing on the second runway, 07L/25R, where significant milestones have been achieved ahead of schedule.
Earlier, on August 6, 2025, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) announced the early completion of Pavement Quality Concrete (PQC) work on Runway 07L/25R—almost a month before the planned deadline.
The PQC phase, which began in late December 2024, was completed by July 30, 2025, with the help of advanced slipform paving technology and round-the-clock construction.
