The Punjab Police has stepped up efforts to tackle environmental pollution through a province-wide crackdown aimed at reducing smog and enforcing environmental regulations.
According to official data, police registered 824 cases and arrested 775 individuals this year as part of the campaign, launched in line with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s vision for a “Smog-Free Punjab.”
In Lahore alone, authorities arrested 41 suspects and registered 34 cases during the ongoing anti-smog operations.
A police spokesperson reported that over 290,000 vehicles were issued challans for violations. In addition, 24,000 vehicles were taken off the roads, and fitness certificates of 283 vehicles were suspended due to non-compliance with environmental standards.
Inspector General Punjab has directed officials to intensify operations, particularly across highways, industrial zones, and other high-risk areas. He further instructed field officers to take strict action against violations of smog-related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
