Dubai RTA Makes Feeder Bus Rides Free for Metro Users

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has made feeder bus travel free for metro passengers, as long as the entire trip stays within the same geographic zone, Al Bayan reported.

The RTA said passengers are charged only once — when they first board a feeder bus. If they continue their journey on the metro or return using the same feeder bus in the opposite direction without leaving the zone, no extra fare is deducted.

How the Fare System Works

Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development at the RTA’s Public Transport Agency, said the Dubai Metro is divided into seven main zones. Fares are calculated based on the number of zones crossed.

He clarified that all feeder bus rides linked to a metro journey are free within the same zone. This applies in both directions and covers outbound and return trips.

Metro Zones Covered

  • Zone 1: Jebel Ali Industrial, Jebel Ali Free Zone, Techno Park, Dubai Investment Park, Dubai World Central
  • Zone 2: Umm Suqeim, Al Barsha, Emirates Hills, part of Jebel Ali Industrial
  • Zone 3: Jumeirah Village, Jumeirah Golf Estates, Jumeirah South Village, Al Barsha South, Al Merkadh
  • Zone 4: Nad Al Sheba, Mirdif, Al Khawaneej, Al Muhaisnah
  • Zone 5: Gold Souk, Al Mamzar, Al Qusais, Al Rashidiya
  • Zone 6: Al Ghubaiba, Al Satwa, Al Karama, Al Jafiliya

A Step Toward Seamless Mobility

Shakri said the initiative reflects RTA’s commitment to deliver a seamless and sustainable transport experience. By making last-mile travel free and easy, the RTA aims to boost public transport usage, enhance quality of life, and support Dubai’s ambition to become one of the world’s most connected smart cities.
