Punjab Launches Crackdown on Illegal LPG Cylinders in Vehicles

The Punjab government has decided to take strict action against vehicles using illegal LPG cylinders.

The Secretary of the Punjab Provincial Transport Authority, Hassan Ahsan, has approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for immediate implementation.

As per the new regulations, any vehicle found with an illegal LPG cylinder will be declared unsafe and deemed “unfit” for operation.

The vehicle will be challaned and seized on the spot. Additionally, the renewal of fitness certificates, route permits, and registrations will be withheld until the illegal cylinders are removed.

Under the Provincial Motor Vehicle Ordinance, vehicles using substandard or illegal LPG cylinders will face immediate action, including confiscation of the cylinders.

A ban on issuing multiple challans in a single day for the same vehicle has been imposed, with stricter fines and penalties for reusing illegal cylinders.

Authorities have been instructed to submit daily reports on the progress of the crackdown, and departmental action will be taken against any officials found negligent in enforcing the new rules.
