Pakistani-Owned Tech Company Sold for $1.7 Billion

Securiti AI, a company started by Pakistani entrepreneur Rehan Jalil, has been sold to data-resilience firm Veeam for about $1.7 billion. The deal will bring Securiti’s data-security and AI-governance tools into Veeam’s product line and marks a very large exit for a Pakistani founder.

Securiti AI builds tools that help companies find, protect, and control data across cloud services and SaaS apps. Its key product is called the Data Command Center, which customers use to manage privacy, governance, and security for data used in AI systems. Veeam says adding those tools will strengthen its ability to protect business data as companies adopt more AI.

Under the agreement, Securiti’s founder and CEO, Rehan Jalil, will take a senior role at Veeam as president of security and AI after the deal closes. The transaction is structured as a mix of cash and stock and is expected to finish later this year, subject to normal approvals.

Companies want tools that make sure AI systems use the right data, protect privacy, and follow rules, and that demand is helping push up the value of firms that provide those services, such as Securiti AI.

For Pakistan’s tech community, this sale is being seen as a big success story, showcasing the growing influence of Pakistani talent in Silicon Valley and beyond. Rehan Jalil has a long track record in cloud security and founded Securiti to focus on safe use of data in the AI age.

Veeam says it will continue to sell Securiti’s products and will work to add Securiti’s privacy, governance, and AI-trust features into Veeam’s backup and recovery offerings. The companies say the combined products will help customers speed safe AI adoption while keeping data protected and recoverable.

  • Completely wrong aasil. First , a company sold is not an accomplishment. It means it was made to be sold. Nothing new.
Enron did the same thing as well.

    Bobby kotick did the same.
Not to mention it’s part of ai bubble. Before dot com bubble people used to sell their companies all the time.

What has Mr jafri created , what are the innovations ? Nothing.

He won’t even pay taxes to pakistan. More hype 0 result

    • I was wondering if your comments are because name or your name is because of your comments, whatever it is guy you need to sort yourself.
Making something out of thin air it’s just a dream for many, it needs lots of courage and much more.

      • Noticed you didn’t address a single thing I said lol

You talk exactly like MAGATS and netanyahu lovers.

I do corporate accountability for a living unlike you who lick ceos drool.

Prove me wrong or address what I wrote

      • A pakistani American citizen who isn’t pakistani anymore and who’s paying taxes to usa not pakistan. Company listed through India ironically

      • Not ripping off people. Noticed you didn’t show Mr jafri accomplishments.

Being ceo is not an accomplishment. He’s the founder

    • If you don’t understand exits don’t comment. To make it simple, you think another unicorn is paying 1.7 billion $ for nothing?

Where did paying taxes in Pakistan came from, he’s in US. Yes the title may sound slightly misleading but all nations celebrate their expatriate diaspora’s success.

      • So you agree he’s american. So what was the point of this article ?

Btw even if you’re american, you have to pay taxes on your global income. 😆

        That’s the law

    • You just had a fight with someone or what? Business are built, sold – that’s common and mainstream.

Exits are largely considered a win. Bubble or no bubble, look at the ticket size. It’s more than double of what IMF paid your country in a whole year after a lot of tarlay maintay and several reviews.

      It’s a huge win bro.

Around paying taxes to Pakistan, he shouldn’t. He didn’t use Pakistan’s infrastructure to build the r business and hence Pakistan doesn’t deserve to be paid any taxes. That’s how the world moves.

You pay taxes, where they are applicable.

      • Noticed you didn’t prove me wrong. But I can prove you wrong

Yes businesses are sold. So are scams. Unlike you I actually work in corporate accountability. We see such cases. Sunny balwani was a pakistani as well. Made millions during dot com Era, sold his company and even claimed he wrote codes.
He’s in jail now btw after being convicted.

Nextly imf doesn’t “pay” anyone. Imf provides loans and then takes over the policy of that country.

He did use pakistani infrastructure, his entire team is in pakistan.

Also that’s not how world moves at all. An american citizen has to pay taxes on their global assets and income regardless of they stay in America or not. So he should pay pakistan taxes if he’s pakistani

Otherwise this entire article was pointless

        Not really bright are you.

    • I love the fact that not a single person who disliked. Proved me wrong .

      Not a single 1 lol

      So I stand corrected

      • Well it’s a accomplishment in a sense that at least he is selling it for that amount not caught begging and deported which Pakistani famous for in foreign countries , it was innovative that is why those firm purchase it for that huge amount , or what you are expecting innovation in this country? You have to be extremely big idiot if you’re expecting innovation in Pakistani tech with how unstable condition is here

        • That’s called corporate manipulation

          Bobby kotick did that.
          Satish kumbani did it.
Credit suisse was caught doing it.
          McAfee did it as well.
Mike lynch sold his company at higher value then it was

Funny how biggest accomplishment is selling a company that you owned as if that’s something to brag about

        • Tooo easy . I work in corporate accountability.

Selling your company means you know it was never going to work so you give it away to cash in beefier the Buble bursts. Nothing new. Have been done in many falling companies.

There is no innovation. Also he’s american citizen.
Sunny balwani was also a pakistani. Guess where he is ?

        • That’s an accomplishment? 😆 🤣 😂

A company registered in usa from India. Ignoring talent and cashing out on a bubble 😆

          What innovative ? How ?

We’ve seen this case before. Sunny balwani did the exact same thing 20 years ago. He was a pakistani, sold his company to another. Made millions.
          He’s in jail btw

        • your seven generations would not able to do what that guy has acheived.

How manys startups enter the market each year and how many make successfull exits. Billion dollar exit is huge accomlishment for him. He is not from a privillaged nation, yet he has done something that has made you jealous.

          • Achieved what ? Selling a company 😆 🤣 😂

Praising some random billionaire is like expecting a str11per to love you.

            Not an accomplishment at all

            Bobby kotick did that.
            Satish kumbani did it.
Credit suisse was caught doing it.
            McAfee did it as well.
Mike lynch sold his company at higher value then it was

Funny how biggest accomplishment is selling a company that you owned as if that’s something to brag about

          • @pouma Sunny balwani achieved same things that Mr jafri did . He was a pakistani as well.

Sold his company for millions, made millions out of it, even claimed he wrote the code. He was the CEO as well

He’s in jail now. Unlike u I actually work in corporate accountability

      • Exactly! Why is everyone attacking angry guy, he is not saying anything wrong, Skype was sold for 7 billion usd to Microsoft, where is it now? Where is Motorola? That was sold for 14 billion usd. Seems one person created multiple accounts to target angry guy because all of those comments make no sense.

        • Wait till you learn about sunny balwani

          He was a pakistani
He sold his company during dot com Era
          He claimed he created codes

He is currently in jail. Not saying Mr jafri is same . But saying that this is nothing but a cash grab instead of talent

    • Great response buddy. Especially since I bet you’ve innovated tons of things and also sold some companies and made a few million dollars ?

      • Well I work in corporate accountability so yeah I’ve seen many like Mr jafri . Who is not even a pakistani but a us national now and his company was listed through india ironically lol

Selling your company means you didn’t create it or developed it . Just like dot com bubble.

    • True that thumbs up @Angry Guy
Also company is U.S registered already what’s the good news for local industry in that.

  • Very encouraging development, maybe Pakistanis potential is about to explode and we’ll see some more breaks

  • Is he a Pakistani in Pakistan or now a US citizen? Where is his company, in Pakistan or USA?

  • Who will be in charge of all the data of Pakistani citizens that Securiti AI has gathered in all these years

    • His company is in pakistan they have their development team working here mostly from Pakistan but they have registered this company in US as well although they have around 500-1000 employees mostly cloud developers working from Pakistan

      • Wrong again
His company is listed through India . Not pakistan. He the founder not the talent. He cashed out and new owner is not keeping pakistan so called team.

Nothing new , we have such examples in in Bobby kotick , builder ai execs, Satish kumbani, adani, Trevor milton.

      • No it isnt. The company is registered through India ironically 😆

This is nothing new . We’ve seen the same case during sunny balwani.

He was a pakistani as well. Sold his company during dot com Era. Made millions . Claimed he was a coder.

        He’s in jail now btw.

  • After that, what is the next step ?
Do some work for Pakistani youth,
    Give them some skills . . .

      • Angry guy. Are you a Pakistani or an Indian who is jealous.
This is a very good news coming out of Pakistan or USA.
        Well deserved….

        • Hi I am pakistani. The company in question is listed through India

          Sooooooooo you just owned yourself. 😆 🤣 😂 😹 😆 🤣

  • 1) This acquisition is not positive news for Pakistan at all, as Veeam will not keep the existing engineering team in Pakistan anymore. The transition is part of the deal.

    2) Security.ai never mentioned Pakistan even on their website, and the founder started an Indian back office a few years ago to become a typical US company.

    3) There isn’t a single dollar of benefit for the country, as Rehan didn’t give a single share to his Pakistan team. The India team is relatively new, but even they received good shares.

  • His only contribution is he born is Pakistan! Rest country has given him nothing, he woudn’t have done this deal if he would have been in pakistan or even he may won’t reached there.
