The Punjab government has launched a large-scale project to provide citizens with clean drinking water. In the first phase, water filtration and treatment plants will be installed in 16 districts across the province.
Punjab Saaf Pani Authority CEO Naveed Ahmad briefed officials during a meeting chaired by Housing Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal.
Filtration and Treatment Plants Planned
According to the Housing Department spokesperson, filtration plants will be installed in areas affected by arsenic and contaminated groundwater. Meanwhile, surface water treatment plants will be set up at Dharabi, Mairwal, and Phalina dams.
In addition, four bottling plants will be built in Khushab, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Rahim Yar Khan to supply clean drinking water in 19-litre bottles to citizens.
First Phase to Benefit 29 Million People by June 2026
The spokesperson said the first phase will be completed by June 30, 2026, and will benefit nearly 29 million people. The provincial cabinet has already approved the operations and management of the project.
Water filtration plants will be installed in government offices, schools, mosques, seminaries, and police stations to reduce water theft. An advanced SCADA system will monitor field operations in real time.
