All Airports in Pakistan to Go Cashless in Major Digital Transformation

The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has announced plans to make all airports nationwide fully cashless.

Under this initiative, passengers and staff will soon be able to access all airport services using digital payments, completely eliminating the need for cash transactions.

The PAA will introduce QR code-based payment systems across airport facilities in collaboration with the State Bank of Pakistan.

The initiative aims to improve convenience, transparency, and financial security for travelers and airport vendors alike. Officials confirmed that all airport shops, restaurants, and vendors will be required to adopt the cashless system.

The first phase will cover Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore airports, where QR-based payments will be launched in the coming weeks. In the second phase, the service will expand to Faisalabad, Multan, and Sialkot airports, gradually extending to all regional terminals.

A PAA spokesperson said the move is part of the authority’s broader effort to digitize operations and align with Pakistan’s national fintech vision, which promotes contactless and traceable payment systems.

He added that the cashless system will also help prevent fraud, streamline transactions, and provide a more efficient experience for travelers.
