The National Highway Authority (NHA) has recommended that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) rename T-Chowk, located at the junction of G.T. Road and Islamabad Expressway, to Potohar Chowk, arguing that the letter “T” has no relevance to the location and that the twin cities represent the heart of the Potohar region.
According to a letter shared with the CDA, the NHA said it had recently completed a high-visibility project to upgrade G.T. Road (N-5) from T-Chowk to Lalazar and officially notified it as Potohar Avenue. The authority noted that this new designation aims to provide clarity and convenience for commuters traveling toward Islamabad.
“It is therefore strongly recommended that, for the ease of commuters, easy reference, and to enhance the area’s identity, ‘T-Chowk’ be renamed as ‘Potohar Chowk,’” the letter stated.
Currently, the CDA is executing a Rs. 1.4 billion flyover project at the same junction. Speaking to Dawn, senior CDA officials said that no final decision has been made on the proposed renaming.
“We will take up the matter with the interior ministry and the federal government. Once the flyover is complete, we will consider renaming the intersection,” an official said, adding that the name T-Chowk will eventually be replaced, though the final title will be determined by the federal authorities.

It will be advisible to rename the T Chowk as Mukka Chowk with the statue of Shaheed e Millat Liaqat Ali Khan’s Mukka in the centre who was martyred in Rawalpindi.
Anything better to do
Continue to use the loans the country takes on such useless exercises. Do not forget that you are surviving on multiple loans – a situation that is not going to change for decades, if not centuries. Better do something useful with the amount that you will use on this Chowk.
Good observation.
Development work must be appreciated. Yes,it is being built through loan but in the vast public interest.
Khayaban-e-Potohar is much better name
My understanding is that it used to form a T junction so it’s perfectly named, plus people usually continue to use the old names instead of pretentious new names anyways. To this day virtually no one calls potohar station as potohar station. Changing the name of T chawk to Potohar is a completely fruitless exercises.
Potohar Cross would be much better
The re-naming may be considered as “Quaid-e-Azam Square” or “Tipu Sultan round about”
“Field Marshal Square” Allama Iqbal Round About”
Since the name T-chowk doesn’t represent anything, therefore,it is a good suggestion to name it POTHAR CHOWK which represents great region of POTHAR. Never think about naming it after weapons or Men.
