The Punjab government has launched a strict crackdown on token tax defaulters, deciding to suspend the registration of more than 500,000 vehicles across the province.
According to the Director General of Excise and Taxation, vehicle owners who fail to pay their token tax by October 31 will have their registrations suspended. Punjab currently has over 1.4 million registered vehicles required to pay the token tax. Of these, around 900,000 owners have already cleared their dues in the first four months of the current fiscal year.
So far, the department has collected over Rs. 5 billion in token tax revenue this fiscal year. However, more than 500,000 vehicle owners have yet to make their payments.
DG Excise Umer Sher Chattha said that during road inspections, major defaulters will face immediate vehicle impoundment. He added that both unregistered government and private vehicles will also be blocked under the new enforcement drive.
The Excise Department has urged all vehicle owners to pay their token tax before the deadline to avoid penalties and suspension.

Government should impose heavy penalties to the defaulters and impound
their vehicles.
