SP Adeel Akbar Reportedly Shot Himself by Accident

According to a report by The News, police sources said on Saturday that Superintendent of Police (SP) Adeel Akbar is suspected to have accidentally shot himself inside his vehicle in Islamabad.

His medical report and leave application submitted before his death have also surfaced, shedding new light on the case. The federal government has formed a high-level investigation team to examine the circumstances surrounding his death, which occurred on October 23 after he sustained a gunshot wound to the head.

Investigators revealed that officers of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) typically do not receive training in handling submachine guns (SMGs). Forensic experts determined that the SMG used in the incident was fired at a 65-degree angle.

An operator accompanying SP Akbar told officials that after returning from the Foreign Office, where he had attested his documents, the officer asked for his weapon. The operator said he first handed over the gun without its magazine but later gave the magazine to SP Akbar when the officer inquired about the bullet count.

Moments later, a gunshot was fired, hitting SP Akbar in the forehead and exiting through the back of his head. The operator stated that SP Akbar died instantly but was rushed to PIMS Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
