Official Inquiry Reveals Possible Reason Behind SP Adeel Akbar’s Death

An official inquiry has cleared Superintendent of Police (SP) Adeel Akbar of all allegations leveled against him by the Government of Balochistan, days after the Islamabad police officer’s tragic death.

According to the Cabinet Division’s report, none of the charges against SP Adeel Akbar were proven. The investigation, conducted under the Civil Servants Efficiency and Discipline Rules, concluded that the officer was falsely accused and stood innocent of any wrongdoing.

The Cabinet Secretariat issued the formal clearance notification on April 10, 2025, officially exonerating SP Akbar.

The report stated that the inquiry proceedings had delayed SP Adeel Akbar’s promotion, causing significant mental stress. Officials confirmed that the inquiry had been ongoing for months, preventing his career advancement. “The halt in promotion deeply affected him,” the report noted, adding that the stress might have contributed to his deteriorating mental state.

Earlier, on October 23, SP Adeel Akbar was found dead in his official vehicle near Serena Hotel in Islamabad. According to initial reports, the officer allegedly took his own life after receiving a suspicious phone call while on duty.

Police sources later told reporters that SP Akbar was in his car with an operator after visiting the Foreign Office, where he had attested some documents. The operator said Akbar asked for his service weapon. Initially, the gun was handed to him without its magazine, but moments after receiving the loaded weapon, a single gunshot was fired — hitting him in the forehead.

He was rushed to PIMS Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

The Cabinet Division’s inquiry has now confirmed that all allegations against SP Adeel Akbar were unfounded, restoring his official reputation posthumously.

  • Why did Cabinet Division waited for him to commit suicide before exonerating him of any charges of wrong doing. How pathetically dumb and incompetent these burauecrats can prove to be, could easily be gauged by this inhumane attitude of the babus. They just need a modern Hajjaj bin Yousuf to harvest the crop of incompetent heads. An Afzal Kahut will also do fine as he was totally privy to the dark, murky and the psychotic world of Pakistani bureaucracy and he took them to task in a pretty much identical style that was the hallmark of Ghulam Qadri Rohilla while dealing with Shah Alam, the 2nd.
