CM Sindh Waives Off First E-Challan in Karachi

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has announced that the first e-challan issued for traffic violations will be waived. The decision came after Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon presented a report on traffic violations involving government vehicles.

According to the report, the new e-ticketing system has issued e-challans to 35 government vehicles for violations such as not wearing seat belts, jumping red lights, tinted windows, and using mobile phones while driving. One police vehicle, SPE-950, was fined for a seat belt violation on the Lyari Expressway.

DIG Traffic Peer Muhammad Shah informed the chief minister that the first e-challan was issued to a police vehicle on October 28 at 1:36 p.m. for not wearing a seat belt at two locations on the Garden-Lyari Expressway.

IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon explained that citizens can request a waiver for their first e-challan within 10 days, and the fee will be canceled. However, repeat offenders will have to pay the fine.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah urged citizens to follow traffic laws for their own safety, stating, “Civilized citizens always obey traffic rules.” He emphasized that police are not above the law and that the modern e-ticketing system is proving effective. He also stressed that all citizens have equal rights and that the law must be enforced fairly.
