The United States has signed a 10-year defense framework agreement with India, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said on Friday.
Hegseth described the framework as a cornerstone for regional stability and deterrence, saying it would enhance coordination, information sharing, and technological cooperation between the two countries.
“Our defense ties have never been stronger,” Hegseth wrote on X after meeting Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.
According to the Hindustan Times, the meeting was held on the sidelines of the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus in Kuala Lumpur, which begins tomorrow.
After signing the agreement, Hegseth thanked Singh for the strong partnership between Washington and New Delhi.
The publication quoted him as saying that the US-India relationship is built on shared interests, mutual trust, and a commitment to a secure and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
Hegseth called the 10-year defense framework “ambitious,” describing it as a critical step for both militaries that lays out a roadmap for deeper and more meaningful collaboration.
“It underscores America’s long-term commitment to our shared security and our strong partnership,” he added.
