Lahore Traffic Police Announces New Rule for Unfit Vehicles

The Lahore Traffic Police have intensified their campaign against vehicular pollution to tackle the worsening smog engulfing the city. Special enforcement teams have been stationed at all major entry and exit points to stop unfit and smoke-emitting vehicles from entering Lahore.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Dr. Athar Waheed said that vehicles without valid fitness certificates are now strictly barred from entering the city as part of the broader anti-smog initiative. He added that the move aims to control emissions and improve overall air quality.

During October alone, authorities took action against 24,591 vehicles operating without fitness certificates. More than 17,000 smoke-emitting vehicles and 8,000 unsafe trolleys carrying sand or dirt were also fined. The CTO noted that enforcement activity has increased fourfold compared to the same month last year, reflecting the department’s heightened focus on pollution control.

Dr. Waheed urged vehicle owners to ensure proper maintenance and timely repairs to minimize smoke emissions. He warned that the traffic police will continue a stricter crackdown in the coming days, emphasizing that reducing smog requires joint efforts from both citizens and authorities.

This campaign comes as Lahore continues to rank among the most polluted cities in the world, with authorities stepping up environmental enforcement ahead of the winter smog season.
