Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Riffat Mukhtar announced on Thursday that the agency has launched an inquiry into reports of overseas workers being offloaded at airports.
The matter came under discussion during a high-level meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain, according to a statement issued by the FIA.
In a reassuring update, the agency confirmed that no new conditions or affidavit requirements have been introduced for Pakistanis traveling abroad on work visas.
Earlier reports had claimed that the FIA made it mandatory for workers to obtain an affidavit signed by a Grade 18 or 19 government officer, guaranteeing they would not attempt to enter Europe illegally. The agency has now clarified that these claims are incorrect.
During the meeting, DG Mukhtar briefed participants that incidents of workers being offloaded had been reported at Lahore and Karachi airports and that investigations were already underway. “If any FIA officials are found involved, strict action will be taken against them,” he asserted.
Minister Hussain emphasized that overseas Pakistanis are a valuable part of the national economy, contributing significantly through remittances. He instructed the FIA chief to immediately resolve the issue and ensure that no worker with a valid visa or protection certificate is unlawfully stopped at any airport.
Actually overseas pakistanis are a good source for FIA for bribery and the money goes straight in the pockets without any taxes or declaration. Even when the rumours are cooled down, genuine travellers will always be punished by FIA to earn bribe money since our government and bureaucrats lack the ability to curb corruption or maybe because they are in on it.
