Work on Major Motorway Project to Begin in Early 2026

Construction on a major motorway project in Sindh is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2026, as financing for three sections has been secured while talks with international financial institutions for the remaining two sections are nearing completion.

The update came during a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee chaired by Senator Quratulain Marri. A National Highway Authority (NHA) official briefed the committee on the progress of the Sukkur–Hyderabad–Karachi Motorway project.

Officials from the NHA, Ministry of Economic Affairs, and the Public-Private Partnership Authority (P3A) informed the committee that the revised PC-1 has been approved. They added that negotiations are underway with the Saudi Fund for Development and the Islamic Development Bank to finalize the project’s financing plan.

The committee praised the progress made so far but emphasized the need to speed up implementation and remove procedural barriers to prevent further delays.

It also reviewed the first-quarter authorization and release of funds under the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) 2025–26. Briefings from the Planning and Finance Divisions revealed that while around Rs. 330 billion had been authorized by the second quarter, actual spending has remained low.

Expressing concern over the slow use of funds, the committee noted that such delays hinder the timely completion of national projects. Both divisions were directed to coordinate with relevant ministries to ensure faster utilization before the end of the fiscal year.

  • Always hear the news that work shall begin from ……… Seldom hear that work on such and such project has been completed.

  • It is good news but involvement of international financial institutions is beyond understanding.
All human and material resources to build a road are available in pak and are available on pak rupees as cruncy.

Making nation under undue debt while we have all resources is unfair practice to people and nation.
