The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Sunday destroyed over Rs315 million worth of unsafe and fungus-infested murabba (preserves) seized from a haveli-style warehouse on Barah Dari Road, Shahdara. Officials also arrested the unit owner and registered a criminal case.
Acting on the directives of PFA Director General Asim Javed, food safety teams recovered large quantities of carrot, apple, bamboo, amla, harad, and ashrafi murabbas made from rotten, insect-infested, and fungus-covered fruits and vegetables.
Nearly 45,000 kilograms of contaminated products were destroyed, and the facility was sealed.
DG Asim Javed said inspectors found non-food-grade drums, an unhygienic environment, and no staff medical certificates or production records.
The unit had been using prohibited chemicals to hide foul odours and decay before packaging the substandard murabba for sale across Punjab.
He added that the operation is part of a province-wide crackdown against the “food fraud mafia”, stressing that those compromising public health for profit will be brought to justice.
The campaign aligns with the Chief Minister’s vision to eliminate food adulteration across Punjab.
