Net Metering Units Jump 28% in September as Solar Use Grows

Pakistan’s net metering share in total electricity generation increased by 57 basis points year-on-year in September 2025.

This reflects continued growth in rooftop solar adoption and a gradual shift away from exclusive grid reliance, according to NEPRA data compiled by Arif Habib Limited.

Net metering units rose 28.1% month-on-month in September, indicating stronger seasonal solar output and expanding installed capacity among households and commercial consumers.

Overall power generation in the month grew 0.8% year-on-year. The trend underscores rising consumer interest in self-generation as power tariffs remain elevated

  • this is great news . clean energy and government doesnt have to pay a single penny. Cose all private IPPs focus on Dam generation, Wind for evening and night load

  • Funny . The govt claimed for past 40 years they were going to make electricity affordable by creating bhasha and kalabagh dams. Still to this day no dams exist

Now people are creating their own electricity and somehow that’s an issue ? 😆 🤣 😂

  • Clean Energy should be promoted and Blood thirsty IPP be left to rot.
Alternative Energy sources like Wind should be exploited too.
