The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) has approved Rs17.9 billion for major water supply and sewerage projects across Rawalpindi, covering areas under the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) and the Rawalpindi and Chaklala Cantonment Boards.
The approval came during a PDWP meeting held in Lahore on November 7, chaired by the Punjab Secretary of Planning and Development.
The key project, worth Rs11 billion, focuses on establishing a modern underground sewerage network in WASA-controlled localities currently lacking proper facilities. The initiative aims to strengthen environmental protection and improve urban living standards.
Another Rs3.6 billion has been allocated to replace the decades-old water supply system connecting Khanpur Dam and Rawal Dam with Rawalpindi. This includes a complete overhaul of main and subsidiary pipelines to ensure uninterrupted and clean water delivery.
A separate scheme will build a new water supply system across Union Councils (UCs) 76 to 80 within Provincial Constituency PP-13. Additionally, Rs3.3 billion has been approved to upgrade the sewerage infrastructure in the Rawalpindi and Chaklala Cantonment Boards, addressing long-standing sanitation issues.
Officials said these projects are part of Punjab’s broader strategy to modernize civic infrastructure and enhance living conditions in key urban centers.
