Major Punjab City Eases Driving License Process for Motorcyclists

The City Traffic Police (CTP) Rawalpindi has launched a new facility allowing motorcyclists to obtain both learner and permanent driving licences in a single day, eliminating the previous 42-day waiting period.

Under the revised system, motorcyclists can take both their written and practical driving tests on the same day. Those who successfully pass will be issued their permanent licences right away, eliminating the long waiting period that often caused inconvenience for daily commuters.

The initiative was implemented under the directives of Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi Farhan Aslam, following the vision of Punjab’s Deputy Inspector General of Traffic, Waqas Nazeer. A CTP spokesperson confirmed that the reform is part of a broader effort to improve licensing efficiency across 13 centres in the district.

Since introducing the new system, more than 20,500 motorcycle licences were issued last month alone. Authorities emphasized that driving without a valid licence remains a legal offence, urging citizens to apply promptly to avoid fines and legal consequences.

CTO Aslam highlighted an ongoing awareness campaign to educate riders on the importance of carrying lawful driving licences, noting that a driver’s confidence and compliance with traffic laws are reflected in proper documentation.

The licensing process is conducted through multiple CTP centres in Rawalpindi, leveraging the Punjab Government’s online licensing system to streamline applications, testing, and issuance.
