Google is introducing a new round of AI-powered shopping features in the US (for now), marking another major push in its agentic AI strategy. The tools range from calling nearby stores on your behalf to completing online purchases automatically, offering experiences that would have sounded futuristic only a few years ago.
Google’s agentic AI can now place phone calls to nearby stores to check product availability. When searching for certain items in Google Search, users may see a “Let Google call” option. After tapping “get started,” Google asks a few questions about the item.
The AI then contacts local stores to confirm whether the product is in stock, its price, and any special offers. Users receive the results through email or text, along with inventory information from additional nearby retailers. The feature is rolling out across categories such as toys, electronics, and health and beauty in the US.
Google Search now also supports agentic checkout. When users track the price of an item in Search, they can choose the specific variant they want, including size, color, and budget. Once the price meets the set threshold, Google alerts the user and, with permission, completes the purchase through Google Pay. This works only with supported merchants, and Google completes the transaction only after the user confirms the purchase. The feature is currently rolling out in Search, including within AI Mode, in the US.
Google has also expanded AI Mode in Search. Users can describe what they want in natural language, similar to speaking with a friend, and the AI returns an organized response with visuals, pricing, reviews, and inventory details. Google says these responses are tailored to each query and formatted to fit the user’s needs.
In addition, shopping features are now available directly in the Gemini app for US users. Gemini can offer holiday gift ideas, present shoppable product suggestions, show comparison tables, and display prices and purchasing options from across the web, all within the app.
