The federal government has adjusted the cost of extending Margalla Highway from GT Road Sangjani to Motorway M-1, approving a revised estimate of Rs. 6.681 billion. According to official documents, the National Highway Authority will carry out the project, which begins beyond the Sangjani grid station.
The plan includes building semi-directional ramps on Shahrah-Mehr Road, constructing a bridge over the Bahuda Kas water channel, and linking the route with Quaid-e-Azam Road inside the AWT housing scheme.
The NHA will also redesign the existing Sangjani–AWT interchange and build service roads on both sides as part of the project’s scope.
The federal government has already given its approval for the Margalla Highway extension from GT Road (N-5) to Motorway M-1. Once completed, the corridor will provide Islamabad commuters with a direct route to the motorway network.
It will also offer motorists entering Islamabad and Rawalpindi an alternative path that avoids the bottleneck at Chungi No. 26 on Srinagar Highway, a location that frequently faces gridlocks during political demonstrations.
