Sindh’s educational boards are set to introduce an advanced e-marking and QR code-based examination system for matriculation and intermediate exams, marking a major step toward digital transformation in the province’s assessment procedures.
The official launch of the e-marking system will take place on December 4 in Karachi, where heads of 29 educational boards from across Pakistan and officials from the Inter-Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) will participate.
Federal Board to Provide Full E-Marking Software Package
The Federal Board of Education will equip Sindh’s boards with software for e-marking, scanning, barcoding, QR codes, and updated marking criteria.
These tools will be implemented in the 2026 examination cycle.
A high-level committee titled Digitization and Technology Implementation in Education Boards has also been formed to supervise the rollout of the system.
The committee was notified by Abbas Baloch, Secretary of the Department of Universities and Boards.
Committee to Lead Digitization Process
The committee includes the chairmen of the Karachi Intermediate Board, the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Shaheed Benazirabad, the Sukkur Board, and the additional secretary of the Department of Universities and Boards.
Fakir Muhammad Lakho, Chairman of the Karachi Higher Secondary Education Board, will serve as the convener.
Speaking to The Express Tribune, Lakho said the Sindh boards convinced the federal government to support the initiative.
“If the government can fund PhD scholarships nationwide, it can also support us with the e-marking mechanism,” he said.
E-Marking for Pre-Engineering and Pre-Medical Exams in 2026
The new system will be introduced in the 2026 annual intermediate examinations, starting with pre-engineering and pre-medical streams.
Each exam paper will carry a unique QR code, allowing digital scanning and segmented marking.
Under the new mechanism, multiple teachers will evaluate different questions of the same paper, preventing any individual from marking more than one question.
This approach aims to improve fairness, accuracy, and transparency.
Digital Systems for Enrolment, Results, and Verification
The committee will also coordinate with IBCC to implement systems for online enrolment, digital result processing, e-marking, and certificate verification.
Its proposals will be submitted to the provincial government to ensure smooth integration across all boards.
IBCC Executive Director Dr. Ghulam Ali Mallah confirmed that teams from Sindh’s educational boards will attend training sessions in Islamabad next week.
After the training, the IBCC will provide the required software to begin the digitization process.
