Islamabad’s Excise Department has issued a formal clarification regarding the upcoming enforcement of E-Tags in the federal capital. The department said it is coordinating with relevant authorities to ensure that residents face no complications once the new system becomes operational on November 18.
In the clarification, Excise Director Bilal Azam stated that vehicles already carrying a Motorway M-Tag will not be required to obtain a separate E-Tag. He said the department aims to make the process as simple as possible for motorists as the city prepares to introduce mandatory tagging for all vehicles travelling on Islamabad’s roads.
Bilal Azam said the Excise Department, in collaboration with the Frontier Works Organisation, will establish 8 to 10 points across Islamabad where E-Tags can be obtained until November 18. He added that the Excise Office continues to issue tags, while two FWO vehicles remain stationed at Kachnar Park to assist motorists with installation.
He urged citizens to ensure their vehicles are tagged, noting that the measure is linked to the capital’s security requirements. The Deputy Commissioner earlier announced that E-Tags will be issued from designated points starting November 18 and will be mandatory for all vehicles, including those registered outside Islamabad.
The administration will inform citizens about issuance points, procedures and required documents in advance.

How can I change my M tag ownership from previous owner
Call on helpline they will ask last trip detail and other info and will transfer it on your name
Take ur cnic with the vehicle documents I think.
Go to any M Tag registration office and ask them to do it for you. They will remove previous ones and put a new M tag barcode on your car’s windscreen.
Call 1313 and ask them to transfer the ownership. They’ll ask for proof (via WhatsApp) and then will transfer it to your name. I have followed the similar process myself.
Call on 1313
Call 1313 waha sa ho jae ga change
If you know the previous owner, he has to call MTag helpline and ask them to transfer it to you.
Otherwise just go to any MTag booth with your smart card + CNIC and they will transfer it to your name.
Its 250 RS so make a new one
just make call on helpline 1313 to update ownership.
8 designated points have not been shown.
The same M-Tag/E-Tag should be issued to motorcycles, as thousands enter the city daily. On the other hand, most vehicles are not registered in the name of the person driving them. The government must take strict action to ensure all vehicles are transferred to the new owner or that an authority letter from the owner is carried.
Useless shitty measures which won’t make a shit of difference to increase security.
Security of the country comes from securing the borders jahan pe yeh log khud serious nai hain. Security comes from making human friendly policies and striving for peace instead of fighting. Security comes from Justice and Equality. These shitty measures are only a source of trouble for people and a a source for income for govt in terms of fines.
M tag is already we r having why not to integrate this with E tag saving of time for all
It okay on main points of entry E Tag teams be deputed as and when new or old vehicles enter they may paste E Tag on provision of Documents and show of veh ,To avoid No new guest or visitors be stop to enter that he has no E Tag on Veh
How about visitors coming to Islamabad from other cities.Do they need to have e-tag?
If they had M tag.they don’t need e tag..
I live in Islamabad and I went there today 17/11, and they said E-Tag is only for Vehicles that were made in 2015 or older.
Since I had a newer car they sent me away and I wasted 30 mins in line.
