Apple is reportedly planning a major change to its product launch strategy. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company intends to split the iPhone 18 lineup into two waves, with the Pro models arriving in fall 2026 and the standard versions following in spring 2027.
This shift would reduce Apple’s reliance on a single, high-pressure fall event and spread its launches more evenly throughout the year.
If Apple moves forward with this plan, the fall 2026 event would introduce the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, along with the long-rumored iPhone Fold. The company may also reveal updated Apple Watch models and new Macs during the same period.
The second wave would take place in spring 2027, featuring the iPhone 18, a likely successor to the iPhone 16e that could launch as the iPhone 18e, and a refreshed version of the iPhone Air. This staggered approach would give Apple more flexibility and reduce production strain during its busiest season.
Reports suggest Apple is using the iPhone Air as a low-volume testing platform for technologies planned for the foldable iPhone. The two devices are expected to share a similar build structure.
Earlier leaks also claimed that the iPhone Air will stick to a single rear camera, as Apple does not see strong demand for an ultrawide lens in that segment.
