Karachi is Getting New Double-Decker and Electric Buses

The Sindh government has announced that double-decker buses and new electric buses (EV buses) will start operating in Karachi from next week. New routes of the People’s Bus Service will also be launched soon in other districts of Sindh.

Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon chaired a meeting attended by Transport Secretary Asad Zaman, SMTMA Managing Director Kanwal Nizam Bhutto, TransKarachi CEO Fawad Ghaffar Soomro, and Yellow Line BRT PD Zamir Abbasi. Officials briefed the minister on the progress of the Yellow Line and Red Line BRT projects.

The minister was also briefed on the launch of an EV taxi service in Karachi and the second phase of the Pink Scooties Scheme. Sharjeel Inam Memon said the double-decker and EV buses are expected to arrive in Karachi next week. New routes for these buses will also be introduced in the city.

He said the Sindh government aims to launch the EV taxi service by December and bring an additional 500 buses during the current financial year. New People’s Bus Service routes in other districts will also be launched soon.

The minister directed transport officials to complete all operational preparations for the new routes. He added that training programs for women and female students to ride scooties are being launched in all divisional headquarters.

Sharjeel Inam Memon instructed officials to speed up work on the Yellow Line BRT and complete depot and infrastructure work as soon as possible. He said the second phase of the Taj Haider Bridge would start soon, while two-way traffic has already been restored on the bridge.

He added that the relocation of utilities affecting the Yellow Line BRT project must be expedited to ensure the pace of development is not affected.
