In a post on X, the High Commission clarified that it does not use WhatsApp for appointments and does not operate any official WhatsApp number. It also named the individual allegedly running the scam, a person identified as Rana Usman Khalid.

The High Commission stressed that visa appointments are free and urged applicants to contact it only through official email and approved phone numbers listed on travel.gc.ca.
While the mission did not confirm whether action is underway to track and prosecute the scammer, it is believed that a formal complaint has likely been filed.
