Pakistani Stars Gain Big in ICC ODI Rankings

Pakistan cricket received a welcome boost this week as several national stars made noteworthy gains in the latest ICC Player ODI Rankings.

Leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed achieved a historic career milestone in ODIs, while senior batters Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Fakhar Zaman all moved up the charts following strong performances in the ODI series against Sri Lanka.

Pakistan’s premier batter Babar Azam has jumped one spot to sixth in the ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings after his unbeaten century in Rawalpindi last week. The former world No. 1 struck a classy 102 against Sri Lanka, reminding fans and critics alike why he remains one of the most dependable white-ball batters in global cricket.

Two other major contributors in the Sri Lanka series, Mohammad Rizwan (22) and Fakhar Zaman (26), made significant progress as well. Both batters struck two half-centuries apiece during the series, and the rankings reflect their impact.

Saim Ayub, however, has dropped to 38th in the latest update.

ICC Men’s ODI Batter Rankings:

Rank Name Country Points
1 Daryl Mitchell New Zealand 782
2 Rohit Sharma India 781
3 Ibrahim Zadran Afghanistan 764
4 Shubman Gill India 745
5 Virat Kohli India 725

Perhaps the biggest headline from a Pakistani perspective belongs to leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed, who has cracked the top 10 in the ODI bowling rankings for the first time in his career.

Abrar vaulted 11 places to reach ninth after his crucial three-wicket haul in the second ODI against Sri Lanka. With Pakistan still searching for long-term spin stability, Abrar’s rise offers both hope and excitement.

Fast bowler Haris Rauf made a quieter but notable climb, moving up five places to 23rd in the ODI bowling rankings. However, Pakistan’s new ODI captain Saheen Afridi has dropped five places to 21st with Naseem Shah also going down three places to sit 36th in the rankings. Mohammad Waseem has used his limited outings to climb 20 places to reach 64th as well.

Bowler Rankings:

Rank Name Country Points
1 Rashid Khan Afghanistan 710
2 Jofra Archer England 670
3 Keshav Maharaj South Africa 660
4 Maheesh Theekshana Sri Lanka 647
5 Bernard Scholtz Namibia 645

While the global rankings saw plenty of movement across countries and formats, the Pakistani contingent enjoyed one of its most encouraging weeks of the year. With batters and bowlers alike making gains, Pakistan’s statistical footprint is trending in the right direction, and the timing could not be better as the buildup continues towards a busy cricketing calendar.
