Consumers across Pakistan have been urged to exercise caution when purchasing bottled water after a new assessment found several brands to be unsafe for drinking.
The Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) has released its quarterly quality review, evaluating 205 bottled water brands sold nationwide. Out of these, 26 brands failed to meet health and safety standards.
According to the report, a number of samples contained excessive sodium, others showed dangerously high levels of arsenic, while many were contaminated with harmful bacteria. Two brands also exceeded the permissible limit of potassium, and some showed elevated Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), making them hazardous for human consumption.
PCRWR warned that contaminated drinking water can pose serious health risks and advised the public to ensure they purchase only certified safe brands.
