The federal government has decided to enforce a unified system for the call to prayer and congregational prayer timings in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousaf said the system will take effect on January 1, 2026.
He explained that most of the work had already been completed during his previous tenure, and the remaining steps have now been finalized. With the new year, both cities will begin following the same schedule for Azan and prayers.
The minister added that the government plans to expand the unified system across the country after its rollout in the twin cities. Consultations with religious scholars from Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and Quetta are in progress to prepare for nationwide implementation.
He said the effort aims to bring consistency to prayer timings in major cities and eventually across Pakistan.
