Date Announced for Direct Flights Between Pakistan and Bangladesh

Bangladesh High Commissioner Iqbal Hussain Khan has announced that Mahan Air is set to begin operating three weekly flights between Karachi and Dhaka, calling the development a major step toward boosting regional connectivity and trade.

According to the envoy, the airline plans to start the flights in December, which will offer more convenient travel options for business communities and travelers from both countries.

Speaking at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI), the high commissioner said the visa process has also been simplified. Visas are now issued within three to four days on the joint recommendation of LCCI and the Bangladesh Honorary Consulate in Lahore, significantly reducing processing time.

Discussing trade opportunities, he noted that Pakistan could export rice to Bangladesh, while Bangladesh could supply fresh pineapples. He added that both countries have strong potential in textiles and readymade garments.

He also revealed that a direct cargo shipping service is expected to launch soon. Although a cargo service has been operational since December last year, rising trade volumes now require a dedicated direct route.

In the education sector, he said Pakistan’s Higher Education Commission will send a delegation of representatives from 12 universities to Bangladesh to expand academic cooperation. He highlighted tourism as another promising area, noting the shared culture, history and values between the two nations.
