Huawei has expanded its Mate 80 lineup in China with two new flagship models: the Mate 80 Pro Max and the Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design. Both phones introduce dual telephoto cameras, large batteries, and top-tier hardware, joining the standard Mate 80 and Mate 80 Pro as part of the series.
The Mate 80 Pro Max shares its design language with the Mate 80 Pro but arrives with a larger form factor. It features a 6.9-inch dual-layer OLED LTPO display that supports a 120Hz refresh rate and can reach peak brightness levels of up to 8,000 nits. The device measures 8.25mm thick and weighs 239 grams. It is offered in Aurora Blue, Polar Day Gold, Polar Region Silver, and Polar Night Black.
The Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design maintains the same thickness but is slightly heavier at 249 grams. It brings a redesigned camera module and a distinctive back panel. Its display and overall dimensions match the Pro Max. The phone uses a titanium mid-frame and third-generation basalt tempered Kunlun Glass for additional durability. Color options include Hibiscus Purple, Jet Black, and Pure White.
Both the Mate 80 Pro Max and Mate 80 RS use the Kirin 9030 Pro chipset. The Pro Max model offers up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage, while the RS variant ships with 20GB of RAM as standard, along with 512GB or 1TB storage options.
HarmonyOS 6 powers both devices, bringing a refreshed interface along with new AI-enhanced features. Additional hardware includes IP68 and IP69 protection, dual-band Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 6.0, satellite communication support, NFC, a USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 port, stereo speakers, and an infrared sensor.
The Mate 80 Pro Max uses a quad-camera system on the back. It includes a 50MP primary camera with a variable aperture and optical image stabilization, a 40MP ultrawide lens, a 50MP macro telephoto camera with an f/2.1 aperture and OIS, and an additional 50MP periscope telephoto camera with OIS and 6.2× optical zoom. A second-generation Red Maple imaging chip supports image processing and color handling.
On the front, the device offers a 13MP selfie camera along with 3D depth-sensing capabilities.
The Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design carries the same camera setup as the Pro Max since both models share identical imaging hardware.
Both phones feature a 6,000mAh battery that supports 100W wired charging and 80W wireless charging.
The Mate 80 Pro Max begins at $1,125 for the 16GB/512GB model, while the 16GB/1TB version is priced at $1,265. The Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design starts at $1,690 for the 20GB/512GB variant, and the 20GB/1TB configuration costs $1,830.
