Huawei Mate X7 Brings Better Cameras and More Battery Than Galaxy Z Fold 7

Huawei has unveiled its latest foldable smartphone, the Mate X7, bringing several improvements over the Mate X6. The new model adds stronger water and dust protection, a refreshed telephoto camera, a newer chipset, and a slightly bigger battery.

These specifications give the Mate X7 an edge over the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in terms of battery and cameras.

Design and Display

Huawei has made the Mate X7 even slimmer and lighter than the previous generation. The phone measures 9.5mm thick when folded and 4.5mm when unfolded, while its weight drops to 235 grams. The aluminum frame remains, offering a sturdy build. The device now carries IP58 and IP59 ratings, meaning it is protected against dust, splashes, and close-range high-pressure water jets.

The Mate X7 features a larger 6.49-inch cover display with a 20.4:9 aspect ratio, paired with an 8-inch inner screen using an 8:7.3 ratio. Both panels are LTPO OLED with a 1–120Hz adaptive refresh rate and 1,440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming. Huawei will offer the Mate X7 in Black, White, Purple, and Red.

Internals and Software

Powering the Mate X7 is Huawei’s Kirin 9030 Pro chipset, the same processor found in the Mate 80 Pro and Mate 80 Pro Max. Although full specifications remain unknown, the chip reportedly uses a nine-core ARMv8 setup that includes a prime core at 2.75GHz, four performance cores at 2.27GHz, and four efficiency cores at 1.72GHz. Storage options include 12GB or 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage.

The Mate X7 ships with HarmonyOS 6 out of the box in China and features satellite connectivity support.

Cameras

The Mate X7 features a triple rear camera setup. The main camera uses a 50MP sensor with an f/1.4–f/4.0 variable aperture, a 24mm focal length, phase-detection autofocus, and optical image stabilization. A strange implementation in the Huawei Mate X7 is that the sensor size varies by model: the 12GB RAM versions with 256GB or 512GB storage use a 1/1.28-inch sensor, while the 16GB and 20GB RAM versions with 512GB or 1TB storage use a larger 1/1.56-inch sensor.

The periscope telephoto camera has also been upgraded to a 50MP sensor with an f/2.2 aperture, an 81mm focal length, PDAF, OIS, and 3.5x optical zoom. The ultrawide camera is a 40MP unit with an f/2.2 aperture, a 13mm focal length, PDAF, and a 120-degree field of view.

Both the ultrawide and telephoto units feature much higher resolution than Samsung’s rival offerings.

For selfies, the phone includes two 8MP front cameras, one on the outer display and another on the inner screen.

Battery and Pricing

The Mate X7 uses a dual-cell Si-C battery with a combined capacity of 5,600 mAh, significantly ahead of Samsung’s 4,400 mAh cell. In terms of charging, the device comes bundled with 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, which again, beats Samsung’s 25W wired and 15W wireless speeds.

Huawei Mate X7’s 12GB/256GB model starts at $1,830, while the 12GB/512GB version costs $1,970. The 16GB/512GB Collector’s Edition is priced at $2,111, and the top-tier 20GB/1TB model comes in at $2,534.
