Huawei has introduced the Mate 80 and Mate 80 Pro, two new flagship models that share many design elements and internal components. Both phones look nearly identical from the outside, largely due to their matching displays and battery sizes, but they differ in processing power and camera capabilities.
Huawei has equipped both the Mate 80 and Mate 80 Pro with the same display. Each phone features a 6.75-inch LTPO OLED panel that adjusts between 1Hz and 120Hz. The screen carries a 1280 × 2832 resolution, supports 1.07 billion colors, and fully covers the P3 color gamut. The company claims this is the brightest panel it has ever used on a smartphone, reaching up to an amazing 8,000 nits.
The display includes 1440Hz PWM dimming and a 300Hz touch sampling rate. It is protected by second-generation Kunlun Glass. Both phones come with a 3D ToF face-scanning camera on the front, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and support for satellite communication. Both devices are offered in Black, White, Green, and Gold.
The Mate 80 Pro runs on the Kirin 9030 chipset, while the Mate 80 uses the Kirin 9020. Huawei states that the Kirin 9030 delivers a 35% increase in performance over the Kirin 9020, and the Kirin 9020 offers the same 35% jump over the Kirin 9010. Huawei also introduced the Kirin 9030 Pro inside the Mate 80 Pro Max, which is described as 42% faster than the Kirin 9020 and around 7% faster than the standard Kirin 9030.
Both the Mate 80 and Mate 80 Pro start with 12GB of RAM, going up to 16GB in the top configurations. The series launches with HarmonyOS 6, which includes a redesigned interface and new AI-powered features.
The Mate 80 includes a 50MP main camera with a variable f/1.4–f/4.0 aperture and a 1/1.28-inch RYYB sensor. It also carries a 40MP ultrawide lens with f/2.2 aperture and a 12MP telephoto camera offering 5.5x zoom through a 125mm f/3.4 lens.
The Huawei Mate series has always had a track record of delivering top-notch camera quality, so we can expect similar output from these two phones as well.
The Mate 80 Pro uses the same primary and ultrawide cameras but introduces a more advanced telephoto system. It features a 48MP sensor paired with a 92.5mm lens that provides 4x zoom and a brighter f/2.1 aperture. Both models benefit from Huawei’s second-generation Red Maple imaging chip, which handles image processing and color accuracy.
The two models feature triple rear cameras and a 13MP front camera with an autofocus f/2.0 lens.
Each phone includes a 5,750 mAh battery. The Mate 80 Pro supports 100W wired charging and 80W wireless charging, while the Mate 80 offers 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
The Mate 80 is priced at $662 for the 12GB/256GB model, $732 for the 12GB/512GB variant, and $773 for the 16GB/512GB configuration. The Mate 80 Pro costs $845 for the 12GB/256GB version, $916 for the 12GB/512GB model, $987 for the 16GB/512GB option, and $1,131 for the 16GB/1TB version.
