The Punjab Masstransit Authority (PMA) has released the first official details of the upcoming Murree Glass Train, an eco-friendly electric monorail designed to ease travel between Islamabad and the hill station.
The project aims to offer a scenic, fast, and environmentally friendly alternative to road travel. According to PMA, the train will run from Lake View Park in Islamabad to a station near the Murree bus stop, with the full journey taking around 40 minutes.
The system will have four stations along the route: Lake View Park, Chattar Park, Ghora Gali, and the final stop near the Murree bus stand. PMA has announced two fare categories:
- Standard: Rs. 500
- Premium: Rs. 1,000
The glass-walled train will run on an electric monorail system, making it an eco-friendly option that reduces emissions and avoids the traffic bottlenecks. The project also aims to enhance the tourism experience by providing panoramic views of the surrounding hills.
Further announcements regarding the launch date and operational schedule are expected soon.

It’s a luxury for blessed peoples but some areas do not have even basic facilities in punjab.
What is ‘glass’ in this train except for the ‘glass windows’? The rest is all the other normal stuff. Why are the authorities bent upon fooling the people with such projects. No foreign tourist will visit Pakistan for decades in these circumstances. Transport is important but for a country surviving for decades on loans and grants should spend wisely rather than enacting such costly dramas.
Why lake view, it should be from main bus stop, tourist other than Pindi Islamabad will face difficulty to approach first lake view area, especially from kpk

Appreciable initiative by Punjab govt under CM Mariam nawaz. It will modernise tourism in Punjab/ Pakistan.
Population growth rate in Pakistan posing serious threats to economic development in Pakistan, of which more than half is Punjab. About 3.8 million (38 lac) children are added to Punjab every year (6 million in Pakistan). The pace of our economic development can’t meet the challenges of providing education, heath, homes and other related essentials to such a big number. As a result, poverty is increasing and at the end of the day, every economic growth turns in net negative growth.
These are the real challenges but seems like govt unable to face them.

It’s strange that the starting point has been kept as Lake View Park. It should have been Islamabad, because the people who can reach Lake View Park in their own transport can definitely go to Murree in their own transport as well. I didn’t understand the logic behind starting from there.

It will be a good project to facilitate tourism in the areas it is suggested that it should be started from Islamabad City railway station or Karachi company or abpara market or from Faizabad (which is the main junction to link twin city Rawalpindi). Tret is located middle of the journey track from Islamabad Rawalpindi to Murree and have a beautiful scenic view of different hills therefore train stop at TRET should be added to make the journey more enjoyable. The glass train plan should be reviewed to make it more feasible attractive and successful.

It is an insanely stupid project. How many people will benefit from this train? Tourist don’t go to Murre, they go to explore the places around Murre and will prefer their private transport.
