Former Australian cricketer Michael Slater has had his life membership and place in the Cricket NSW Hall of Fame revoked following multiple domestic violence convictions.
Cricket NSW began reviewing Slater’s honors earlier this year after a series of serious incidents came to light. The former opening batter had pleaded guilty to seven charges linked to domestic violence offenses involving a woman in the Noosa area between December 2023 and March 2024.
The charges included two counts of choking, along with stalking, assault, and burglary. He received a four-year prison sentence, which was suspended.
Michael Slater, who played 74 Test matches and 42 ODIs for Australia between 1993 and 2001, had previously been found guilty of domestic violence offenses in 2022, and since 2016, five women in New South Wales have obtained protection orders against him.
According to reports, Cricket NSW members and delegates voted on Monday night to strip Slater of his Hall of Fame status and life membership. Slater had submitted a written appeal to retain his honors, but it was dismissed.
He was inducted into the Cricket NSW Hall of Fame in 2015 and granted life membership a year later, following a distinguished playing career and later work in cricket broadcasting, most recently with Channel Seven. His contract with the network ended in 2021.
