ChatGPT Might Soon Serve the Most Personalized Ads in Internet History

OpenAI is reportedly testing advertisements inside ChatGPT for the first time, marking a major shift in how the company may monetize its AI platform. According to a report from BleepingComputer, references to upcoming ad features were discovered in the latest ChatGPT Android beta app.

Introducing ads into ChatGPT could significantly reshape online advertising. OpenAI’s chatbot already understands user preferences, habits, and behavioral patterns with far greater nuance than traditional web trackers. This raises the possibility of highly personalized ads, which could outperform the targeted advertising seen on platforms like Google.

Software engineer Tibor Blaho spotted new code in the ChatGPT Android app version 1.2025.329 beta. The code points to several advertising components, including phrases such as “ads feature,” “bazaar content,” “search ad,” and “search ads carousel.”

Until now, ChatGPT has never displayed ads. Although the service offers paid plans like ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT Pro, the user experience has always been free of product promotion, unlike Google Search, where advertising plays a central role.

Such a system could promote products that users are actively thinking about or have previously discussed with the chatbot, a level of personalization that typical ad networks cannot replicate.

According to the leak, OpenAI plans to begin with ads integrated into ChatGPT’s search experience. It is unclear whether advertisements will expand into conversations, image generation, or other ChatGPT features.

OpenAI has not commented publicly on the leak, but the feature’s appearance in the beta app suggests internal testing is underway.
