Govt Considers Islamabad–Rawalpindi Metro Bus Route Extension

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Punjab Minister for Transport and Mass Transit Bilal Akbar Khan on Monday to review planned reforms in the transport sector, with a strong focus on improving the  Islamabad-Rawalpindi Metro Bus Service.

Officials said the meeting centered on boosting operational efficiency, upgrading stations, and improving the overall commuter experience.

Both sides examined proposals to modernize the system and discussed the possibility of extending the metro route to meet rising passenger demand. Naqvi noted that thousands rely on the service every day and stressed the need for continuous upgrades to keep pace with the growing population.

A key outcome of the meeting was the decision to form a joint coordination committee that will supervise planned improvements and ensure smooth implementation. The officials also emphasized the importance of expanding electric transport to enhance convenience and curb smog in the region.

Naqvi highlighted that Islamabad has introduced electric buses for the first time and said the fleet and routes will continue to grow. During the session, Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan briefed the interior minister on recent steps taken to modernize public transport across Punjab.
