Tourism Police in KP Still Waiting for Salaries

KP Tourism Police personnel have been without salaries for the past six months, leaving many officers under severe financial and mental stress. The issue came to light after opposition members raised the matter in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.

The Pakistan Muslim League–Nawaz (PML-N) submitted a “Call to Attention” notice, led by MPA Sobia Shahid and other opposition members, urging the government to take immediate action.

They stated that officers deployed at major tourist sites were facing serious financial, administrative, and professional difficulties due to the long delay in payments.

According to the notice, the Tourism Police workforce is struggling to meet basic expenses, and the uncertainty is affecting their morale.

The opposition demanded that the provincial government release all pending salaries immediately and address the growing unrest among the personnel.

Tourism Police personnel say their pay has been withheld since May, and despite several assurances from officials, the matter remains unresolved.

The force formally began operations three-and-a-half years ago, with officers hired on a three-year contract and promised permanent status. When the contract ended, officers were instructed to continue their duties and were told that an extension would soon be approved, but no decision has been finalized yet.

Officials from the Tourism Department confirm that the salary delay is directly linked to the pending approval of contract extensions.

A senior officer said the issue can only be settled through a Board of Directors (BoD) meeting. Although one month’s salary was released earlier through special approval, no further payments can be made until the BoD grants formal approval.
