Completion Dates Announced for Upgrades at Two Major Airports

Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) announced on Sunday that several major aviation projects are moving forward nationwide to expand airport capacity and improve passenger services.

PAA said the terminal expansion at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport remains on track for completion in September 2026. It also confirmed that the runway upgrade at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport is expected to finish by January 2026.

The authority stated that it will introduce new RNP-AR flight procedures at Skardu, Gilgit, and Chitral airports by June 2026. Officials expect the system to reduce weather-related delays and cancellations in Pakistan’s northern region.

PAA also noted that planning continues for new greenfield airports in Dera Ismail Khan, Sukkur, and Faisalabad. Phase two of the Skardu Airport upgrade and development work at the Mandi Bahauddin General Aviation Aerodrome are scheduled to begin next year.

At Karachi Airport, authorities have approved the locations for a new air traffic control tower and a rescue and fire station, both intended to enhance operational safety and traffic management.

PAA said these projects aim to modernize the country’s aviation network, improve reliability, and offer passengers better facilities and more efficient services across Pakistan.

  • Yes, airports required better facilities, especially Karachi airport needs to be modernised , also it needs to be extended with more departure gates. Old and obselet planes parked on airport ground premises be removed and sold at once.

  • Overall, Karachi Airport desperately needs a major overhaul. From the dirty, dusty parking area to the poorly maintained runway and not to forget the damaged, unclean marble flooring throughout the terminal.
