Islamabad Intensifies Action Against Smoke-Emitting Vehicles

The Islamabad Transport Authority has intensified its citywide crackdown on smoke-emitting vehicles as part of efforts to curb rising air pollution.

According to a six-day performance report issued by the authority, multiple vehicle emission testing points across the city are fully operational to facilitate motorists and ensure strict compliance with environmental standards.

The report states that 2,331 vehicles have passed the emission test and were issued clearance stickers over the past six days. In the last 24 hours alone, the authority completed emission checks for approximately 401 vehicles and provided them with official clearance.

The initiative is part of a broader campaign targeting unfit and high-emission vehicles contributing to deteriorating air quality. Authorities confirmed that 14 smoke-emitting vehicles were taken into police custody during various enforcement operations.

These actions are aimed at discouraging the use of vehicles that pose environmental hazards and ensuring that only compliant vehicles remain on the roads. The crackdown is expected to continue in the coming days with even stricter monitoring.

Chairman of the Transport Authority said that inspection teams are present at every designated point to ensure thorough testing of vehicles. He emphasized that the authority is committed to maintaining rigorous environmental checks and ensuring that all testing stations are functioning without any interruption.

In an effort to provide timely and convenient services to citizens, Deputy Commissioner Irfan Memon announced that the number of inspection points will be increased.

He stated that expanding the network of testing facilities will help reduce congestion at existing stations and allow more motorists to undergo emission checks efficiently, supporting the city’s broader goal of controlling air pollution.
