Punjab Temporarily Ends Challans of Transport Vehicles: Report

Punjab’s transporters on Monday ended their strike after negotiations with the provincial administration, according to City42. The strike had largely failed, with only a limited number of goods transport vehicles, mainly trucks and trailers, observed off the road.

According to officials, both sides agreed to form a committee on Tuesday to review the issues raised by transporters.

Until the committee completes its review, challans for commercial vehicles have been temporarily suspended.

Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan announced that enforcement of the Traffic Rules 2025 for commercial vehicles has been halted.

He added that the government would introduce appropriate amendments to the Traffic Rules Ordinance.

Moreover, the Manager of the General Bus Stand Gujranwala, confirmed that both sides have agreed to call off the strike after successful negotiations. A formal announcement is expected soon, and all transport will resume. Meanwhile, Senior Minister Punjab Marriyum Aurangzeb has refuted all such claims.

Earlier, Secretary RTA Asad Abbas Shirazi confirmed that urban and intercity transport operations remained functional despite the strike call.

He said all D-class bus stands continued intercity services, while urban routes, including e-buses and metro bus service, operated normally to facilitate passengers.

He warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone attempting to use force or disrupt transport operations.

Shirazi emphasized that pick-and-drop service vehicles must follow the passenger limits stated on their route permits and that the government would not compromise on public safety.

The RTA has submitted a complete report on ongoing intercity and urban transport operations to the provincial government.

Operators of D-class stands had already assured authorities that they would not participate in the strike.
