Pakistan’s Olympic gold medalist and WAPDA’s star javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem won the Gold medal at the 35th National Games javelin event with a powerful 81.81m throw.
The star athlete crossed the 80m mark in his third attempt, drawing strong applause and reaffirming his position as Pakistan’s leading javelin thrower.
Fellow WAPDA athlete Yasir Sultan secured the silver medal with a throw of 70.7 meters, while Army’s Abrar Ali claimed the bronze after reaching 67.68 meters.
His dominant performance came at a time when he had placed high expectations on the 35th National Games, believing the event would help emerging athletes step into the national spotlight.
Just a day earlier, Arshad had spoken to the media at the opening ceremony at the National Bank Stadium, where he expressed strong confidence in the Games’ role in identifying sporting talent across the country.
He said the National Games would “bring out new talent for Pakistan,” adding that he was sure promising athletes would emerge in every discipline and eventually represent Pakistan internationally.
Arshad further explained that the top performers from the event would be invited to the national training camp. With several major competitions scheduled next year, he noted that these athletes could earn a chance to compete globally.
The javelin thrower, who recently defended his gold medal at the Islamic Solidarity Games, also shared his personal ambitions. He said his focus now shifts to major events such as the Diamond League, Commonwealth Games, and Asian Games.
Despite carrying an injury earlier this year, Arshad expressed satisfaction with his performances and confirmed that he is now “completely fit.”
