Here’s How Much It Will Cost to Build the Islamabad Cricket Stadium

The proposed Islamabad Cricket Stadium is moving ahead, with the project’s revised cost now set at Rs. 8 billion (Rs. 800 crore).

According to reports, the government and stakeholders have already cleared the initial plan, and the 3D model is expected to be revealed soon.

The new Islamabad cricket stadium will be located near D-12, offering a view of the Margalla Hills, and will seat around 32,000 spectators. A major parking facility for 10,000 vehicles will be built about one kilometre from the venue. The design is inspired by the Dubai Cricket Stadium.

The project’s original PC-1 of Rs. 12 billion was recently reduced to Rs. 8 billion after a review of the concept design. Another meeting is scheduled next week, after which the CDA is expected to begin the tendering process. Once launched, construction is projected to take two years.

Currently, Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium is the only venue available for international matches in the twin cities, causing severe traffic issues due to its central location. Residents and traders have long demanded a more suitable alternative.

The new stadium will be a CDA–PCB joint venture. Under earlier discussions, the CDA will lease 280 kanals for 99 years, while revenue will be shared 70:30 in favor of the PCB.

A previous attempt to build a stadium in Shakarparian was scrapped after the Supreme Court declared the area part of the national park.

  • Do not build any stadium near CDA residential sectors as it will make the lives miserable of the residents living near it by road closures and routes implemented by the security department for the safety of the visiting teams. Build it near the airport or behind the presidency or prime ministers secretariat if you want the margalla views.
