Pakistan Successfully Tests Its First AI-Powered Driverless Car

Engineers at NED University of Engineering and Technology have successfully tested Pakistan’s first AI-powered driverless car. The self-driving car operated smoothly on the university’s roads during the trial run, drawing attention from students and visitors.

The National Centre for Artificial Intelligence at NED developed the vehicle over the past year. The team converted a China-imported electric car into an autonomous system by integrating artificial intelligence, robotics, mapping tools, and advanced sensor and vision technologies.

Dr Muhammad Khurram, director of the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and head of the project team, said the car reached a mature testing stage after a year of continuous development.

He noted that the engineers have built steering control using radar and computer vision and are now working on object detection, lane recognition, speed-limit identification, and traffic signal interpretation.

The vehicle currently drives at 15 to 20 km/h and can turn independently while judging oncoming traffic. Team member Inzamam Khan said the system can handle Pakistan’s difficult road conditions, including potholes and uneven surfaces, due to its high-resolution sensors.

The project began during former vice chancellor Dr Saroosh Hashmat Lodhi’s tenure and has advanced significantly under current Vice Chancellor Dr Tufail Ahmed. The successful test represents a significant step forward for Pakistan’s engineering and AI capabilities.

  • Alot of claims . 0 proof

Which ai did they use ?

Open ai doesn’t make such ai
    Deepseek doesn’t
If they used open source such as chinese models then those are chinese not pakistan

Lastly no proof of offline driving.

Why do we live in tech hype instead of tech usage.

    • The comments you shared are from Pakistan developed mobile? Learn to appreciate if someone do something interested and good for country.

    • Bhai no one uses open Ai or deepseek or any other AGI for driving cars. There are other models specific for tasks like this

    • Don’t be an idiot trying to be a smarty pants. The AI softwares you mentioned are LLMs there are other types of AI softwares which have different functionality. For self driving cars you don’t use LLMs.

  • Has Pakistan developed a car on its own with driver? The answer is a big NO. Where did this driverless car come from? Please do not publish such fictional news. We can only make bombs.

  • What a fuckin Joke, this mafia of Suzuki,Honda never let Pakistan to become self sufficient in production.

They won’t even give quality or safety vehicles to this nation.

And they let this nation to create AI cars.

Until Corrupt elites from every field remains in power this country and nation can only dream but they will never come true.

  • Congratulations to the team on this impressive milestone! We are also actively working on a similar project and would love to connect, exchange insights, and explore possible collaboration.

  • article says,”and are now working on object detection, lane recognition, speed-limit identification, and traffic signal interpretation.” you sure its a car not a golf cart?
