CDA Completes Rs. 1.4 Billion Flyover Two Months Before Deadline

The Capital Development Authority has completed the main construction work of the T-Chowk Flyover well ahead of schedule, finishing the project in just 90 days, nearly two months before its original deadline.

The 1.1-kilometer flyover, built at a cost of Rs. 1.4 billion, stands at the intersection of GT Road and Islamabad Expressway and aims to ease traffic coming from the Lahore side. Under the approved PC-I, authorities had set February 19 as the completion date, but the CDA and the construction firm finished the core structure significantly earlier.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif laid the foundation stone of the project on September 12. CDA officials confirmed that the flyover is structurally complete and ready for inauguration, with only minor finishing work still under way.

The authority increased the project cost by up to 15 percent after adding an extra lane at grade level and constructing additional U-turns to improve traffic flow. Officials stated that procurement rules allow such an increase in scope during ongoing projects when required to facilitate motorists.

Meanwhile, work on the Shaheen Chowk underpass continues at a rapid pace. The underpass, located at the junction of Ninth Avenue and Khayaban-i-Iqbal, also recorded a 15 percent cost increase and is now nearing completion, well ahead of its original April deadline.
